Synopsis of The Mikado

    The story follows Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado (the Emperor of Japan), who has fled his father’s court disguised as a wandering minstrel to escape an arranged marriage. He returns to Titipu to pursue his love, Yum-Yum, who is engaged to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner and a tailor recently elevated to this position.The plot thickens with comedic twists involving Ko-Ko’s attempts to avoid executing anyone (despite his title), the romantic entanglements between Nanki-Poo, Yum-Yum, and other characters, and the absurdity of the local laws and customs. The Mikado himself eventually arrives, adding to the farcical complications.
