Synopsis of Treasure Island

  • Setting: Primarily at the Admiral Benbow Inn, on a ship called the Hispaniola, and on a remote tropical island. The period is the mid-18th century.

    The story is narrated by young Jim Hawkins, the son of the innkeepers of the Admiral Benbow Inn. A mysterious old sailor named Billy Bones arrives at the inn, carrying a sea chest and a strange map. Billy Bones is pursued by other pirates who are after his treasure map.After Billy Bones dies, Jim and his mother discover the map, which leads to the buried treasure of the infamous Captain Flint. Jim joins a group of respectable gentlemen, including Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney, who organize an expedition to find the treasure. They hire a ship, the Hispaniola, and a crew, including the charismatic but untrustworthy one-legged pirate, Long John Silver, who serves as the ship’s cook.During the voyage, Jim overhears Silver and a portion of the crew plotting a mutiny to seize the treasure for themselves. Jim alerts Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney, and they manage to take control of the ship and land on the island. A fierce struggle ensues between Jim’s party and the pirates, involving battles, chases, and a race to find the treasure. Jim faces numerous dangers and must rely on his courage and wit to survive and outsmart the pirates, especially the cunning Long John Silver.
